At Ivanhoe Primary School, a diverse array of extracurricular clubs awaits students eager to explore additional interests beyond the classroom. From the melodious strains of the Strings and Choir ensembles to the strategic challenges of Chess, students have the chance to participate in activities that enrich their school experience. For those seeking a break during lunchtime, the Lunch Club provides a welcoming environment for relaxation and socialisation.

Chess Club

Boys and girls in Foundation to Year 6 have the opportunity to enroll in a before school chess club, fostering critical thinking and strategic skills. Held in designated classrooms from 8:00 am to 8:55 am on Tuesday mornings the club offers tuition by qualified chess masters, catering to beginners through advanced levels.

Additionally, intra-school and inter-school competitions are organized throughout the year, providing opportunities for friendly competition and skill development.

Enrolment forms and fee information are readily available at the school office, ensuring easy access for interested students and parents alike.

Camping Program

Ivanhoe Primary School’s camping program aims to assist students to develop levels of independence appropriate for their age group and to experience a range of educational activities. Children have the opportunity to experience unique activities and accommodation in a caring environment away from their families.

Year 4

A 2 night / three day adventure camp at Alexandra Adventure Resort in Alexandra with teachers and parent volunteers.

Year 5

A 2 night / three day camp at Sovereign Hill in Ballarat with their teachers and parent volunteers.

Year 6

4 night / 5 day tour to Australia's capital city, Canberra, with teachers and parent volunteers.

Music Program

While Music is a Specialist class enjoyed by all students for 50 minutes a week there are also many opportunities for students to be involved in additional music programs.

Ivanhoe Primary School is well known for its music program catering for all students through a combination of our Specialist Classes (50 minutes per week for all students) and additional opportunities to be involved in a broad array of music experiences.

Our wonderful parents group the Friends of Music (FoM) provide additional support including helping to run some of our events and to produce our music brochure.

Sporting Programs

Foundation to Year 2
Foundation, Year 1, and Year 2 P.E. classes focus on teaching fundamental motor skills (FMS) through dance, gymnastics, relays, and skill stations. Chasing games with basic rules promote fair play and cooperation, laying the groundwork for team sports. As students progress, mastering FMS enhances their control over speed, direction, and level during modified team games. From swimming to athletics and team sports, all students have access to diverse sporting programs. Year 3 onwards, students engage in district carnivals, with interschool sports available in grade 6.

Athletics Sports (Years 3-6)

Students have the opportunity to represent the school in the district athletics carnival and the district cross country competition.

Year 6 Team Sports

Ivanhoe Primary School is a member of the Ivanhoe District School Sports Association which runs both Summer and Winter sports competitions for senior students in Terms 2 and 3. There are also round robin tournaments in terms 1 and 4.

Summer Sports

Interschool sport choices include Bat tennis, Softball, Volleyball and Cricket.

Winter Sports

Interschool sport choices include football, netball and softball.

Swimming Program

All students are provided with the opportunity to participate in an intensive swimming program conducted at the Ivanhoe Aquatic Centre. Swimming lessons are conducted by trained swimming instructors provided by the Aquatic Centre.

Children in grades 3 to 6 also have the opportunity to participate in the District Swimming Carnival.
