School Council
Playing a pivotal role in guiding the development of Ivanhoe Primary School, the School Council ensures community involvement and collaboration. Comprising elected parents, staff members, and the Principal, the Council offers advice on educational programs, administration, and budget allocation, while overseeing long-term school development and current facility maintenance.
Council elections occur annually in February, with all members of the school community welcome to attend Council Meetings, held twice per term as advertised in the school newsletter.
The Governance handbook, available on the DET webpage, provides an overview of the Council's roles and responsibilities.
Sub Committees
The School Council invites parents to participate in formal sub-committees, which provide opportunities for wider involvement and report back to the Council. Parents are encouraged to join any committee of interest.
Out of School Hours Care (OSHC): Responsible for the organization and administration of the Before and After School Care Programs.
Buildings & Grounds (Facilities): Organizes working bees throughout the year for specific projects, general maintenance, and upkeep of school buildings and grounds, held on Sunday mornings. Families are encouraged to join for a few hours, fostering community engagement.
Education: Reviews the school’s policies and educational programs, with policy and charter documents available for parent input.
Finance: Drafts the annual budget and maintains an overview of the school's needs and priorities.
School Fair & Public Events Committee (bi-annual only): Plans and presents bi-annual fundraising events, promoting community engagement and fundraising for the benefit of students and families.
Grants: (We may need help from time to time to develop grant submissions)
Additionally, there are various other groups and committees open for parental participation (see Parent Involvement), although they do not formally report back to the School Council.
