Curriculum
The Victorian Curriculum F-10 serves as the foundational curriculum framework for schools across Victoria, encompassing the Australian Curriculum while tailoring its content to align with the unique standards and priorities of the Victorian education system. Easily accessible through the Victorian Curriculum F-10 website, this framework offers a unified and thorough compilation of achievement standards. These standards serve as the cornerstone for schools in designing tailored learning programs, tracking student progress, and effectively communicating outcomes to parents. The curriculum, supplemented by a wealth of resources and supporting materials, ensures a cohesive and enriched educational experience for students throughout their learning journey.
Specialist Classes
Alongside the core curriculum, Ivanhoe Primary offers specialised classes, typically allocated 50 minutes per week to all students, including Art, Classroom Support/Intervention/Enrichment, Music, Physical Education, Information & Communication Technology/Multimedia, LOTE (Italian), and English as an Additional Language (EAL).
Education Support
The Department of Education and Training (DE&T) offers support to children and families facing difficulties or with special needs, accessible through the school office.
If deemed beneficial, your child's classroom teacher may reach out to discuss available options, which encompass programs such as Educational Psychology, Special Education, and Speech Pathology.
Curiosity and Explicit Instruction
Curiosity serves as foundational principle in our teaching and learning approach, permeating all curriculum programs throughout our school.
Curiosity and explicit instruction empowers students to explore, analyze, and solve problems within a supportive environment, equipping them with diverse tools to enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Reporting To Parents
The school's parent reporting process includes an initial 'Parent-Teacher Interview' in February to discuss students' settling into class and share relevant background information.
At the end of each semester, comprehensive written reports are sent home detailing students' progress, achievements, and areas for improvement, accompanied by their current work sample portfolio for parent review and feedback.
Additionally, a second 'Parent-Teacher Interview' is held at the beginning of Semester 2 to review progress and discuss future directions, while ongoing communication between parents and teachers is encouraged for addressing student issues promptly.
Healthy Lifestyle
We encourage students to create healthy eating routines which include physical activity - making healthy choices should becomes engrained in everyday life. It is paramount that such a commitment involves our whole school community, from the canteen manager to parents and staff and our local fruit and veg retailers.
We promote Healthy Lifestyles through:
Fruit and Veg breaks twice daily.
Endeavouring to eliminate foods high in fat and sugar from the canteen and encourage healthy alternatives such as dried fruit, raisin toast, pasta, salads and sushi
Nude Food is a big initiative from an environmental and sustainability perspective, which in turn helps encourage students to bring fruit and veg
Whole school hydration policy – each child brings a drink bottle to school which can be refilled anytime throughout the day
SunSmart - wearing a broad brimmed or legionnaire style hat is compulsory in Terms 1 & 4 (No Hat No Play policy) and all students are encouraged to have their own sunscreen available in their school bag.
